• VI X VI •
The sixth and last of a set of six covers by THE NIGHT VI.
So last summer we were at Reading Festival to watch our friends Mystery Jets play and the following act on the main stage was Odd Future. We watched the rap collective from the side of the stage and were blown away by these crazy energetic kids bouncing up and down in front of a giant pink cat backdrop, stealing the show and having the most fun of the entire weekend. Our hearts were broken that Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt weren’t there to perform but we couldn’t help but admire the attitude this collective have to promoting their music. They have such an indie approach to their art, creating artwork, videos, photos and self producing the music. The creativeness of this extended group has really inspired us as well as providing lessons in how to make a band project in an increasingly changing and crazy industry.
Our favorite member after Tyler’s outrageous potty mouth and sixpack is Frank Ocean. He has the voice of an angel and Channel Orange has been part of the soundtrack to life in The Night VI for the past year. Sophie knows the lyrics to this one back to front and its a real treat to hear her perform it. In choosing this cover we were also struck with how the female vocal gives the song such a subtly different but equally beautiful tone and meaning. The purpose of this series of covers we’ve posted over the past six weeks( • VI x VI •) has really been about sharing some music that we love and presenting it in a homemade fashion directly to you. This is the last of the series but look out for 2 new songs that will be premiered by two blogs we love in the coming fortnight.
Until then much love from us VI & thank you again for your ongoing support. x
